In the late 1980's I signed up to have my case put before a judge at a hearing before the Board of Veterans Affairs. A traveling judge from Washington DC came to Portland, Oregon to hear my case. It was a very comfortable setting with the recorder and my representative from AMVET was there also. After all the questions were asked and all the statements were made and the hearing was over, the Judge , my rep, and I had a talk about my case. The judge told me that he was very upset at how I had been treated all those years. He was going back to Washington DC and make his report. He said he was going to fight for me and see that something was done to make all this right for me. I thanked him and I made the long trip home. I waited for months to hear. After a long wait I started calling the VA in Portland Oregon to find out my status. I could not get any information at all. I was told that some one would call me back. They never did. (I have never had a call returned from the VA) I went to the Service office in town, that I use to get info. (another story) The people at the VA service office told me that someone had broken in their office and removed My files. I had to bring in my paper work just so they could make copies. We found that I had no copies of the hearing at all. (I can't explain this). The VA service office called the Portland VA and found they had no record of my hearing either, so they re-scheduled me for a new hearing. The new hearing was to be heard by a local judge. When this new hearing was held, I was told I could not talk about the old hearing among other things. I am, and was, very, very unhappy at how I was treated at this 2nd hearing. The judge at this 2nd hearing was very angry at me, for some unknown reason, and yelled, and pointed his finger at me in anger a few times, and was in general a very bad representative for a judge. I made complaints about this hearing. AMVET who was my power of attorney at the time also, put my complaints in my files. The people at AMVET were very angry at what was going on. They told me they were going to look into this and get something done. After not hearing from AMVET for awhile I Called them and was told that AMVET was fired from Portland, Oregon and that there is no representative for AMVET in Oregon anymore. No one at AMVET's number that I called could tell me anything at all.
A copy of this was also sent to the National AMVETS HQ.
